    • structure located in the human primary auditory cortex, with leftward asymmetries in volume, largely attributable to greater white matter volumes, likely related to a greater number of fibers and/or increased myelination. A spectrotemporal trade-off model proposes that microstructural properties may underlie observed hemispheric differences in auditory processing, in that greater myelination and connectivity in left auditory cortex may underlie that region's specialization for handling fast temporal information. Conversely, denser, more interconnected columnar structure in right auditory cortex appears more conducive to evaluating fine frequency distinctions. The left sided structure has been implicated in language learning
