• frequently used in ovulation induction associated with timed sexual intercourse. The technology used to obtain pharmacologically available human FSH has traditionally been extraction and purification from the urine of postmenopausal women. Progressively improved, now yields < 0.001 IU of LH per FSH ampoule and a low amount of proteinic contamination. Can be safely and effectively used to induce ovulation induction both in normoovulatory patients with unexplained infertility and in CC-resistant PCOS patients. The slightly higher effectiveness of rFSH in terms of delivered babies seems to compensate for the higher cost per IU, leading to lower final economical costs per delivered baby
