  • a membrane-associated protein, mainly expressed by endothelial cells, mediating the endothelial response to acute hypoxia in the brain through the PI3K/Akt pathway. Previously known as Junctional protein associated with Coronary Artery Disease or KIAA1462) is a protein highly expressed in vascular endothelial cells of systemic and cerebral arteries. Genetic studies demonstrated that single nucleotide polymorphisms in the human KIAA1462 gene are associated with coronary artery disease
