• an etiologic agent of a highly contagious disease of domestic and wild pigs characterized by high mortality among animals, often reaching 100%. Wild boars constitute a reservoir and pose a permanent threat of the disease penetrating into other regions. ASFV is the only species of the genus Asfivirus, family Asfarviridae, belonging to a clade of nucleocytoplasmic large DNA viruses
