  9. chromosomal microarray analysis(English)

    • enables the detection of microdeletions/duplications and has become the standard in clinical diagnostic testing for individuals with congenital anomalies and developmental disabilities. An advantage is that it enables the detection of losses and/or gains of chromosomal material that are submicroscopic, i.e., too small to be detectable by conventional G-banding chromosome analysis, which leads to a significantly increased diagnostic yield of ~10% higher for individuals with unexplained developmental disabilities or congenital anomalies. In addition, it analyzes DNA extracted from uncultured cells of all different types, which has fewer experimental requirements for sample quality and usually shortens the reporting time for results as compared with chromosome analysis. In the era of genomic arrays, the value of traditional chromosome analysis needs to be reassessed

  10. cow's milk allergy(English)

    • the most common food allergy among infants and young children, affecting 2–3% of the population with up to 50% of children with CMA also having adverse reactions to other foods. For formula-fed infants with CMA, a variety of alternative formulas are available. Although soy formula is not hypoallergenic, many infants (85–90%) with IgE-mediated CMA may tolerate soy formula
