  • calculated as GLS*SBP*EDD^2 / [8*(EDWT^2 + EDWT * EDD)], and expressed as kJ/m3. Estimates the mechanical energy (work done) per unit volume of myocardium during contraction. As such, it is likely to be a more robust measure of myocardial contractile function than alternative measures. Blood pressure, wall thickness, chamber dimensions (determinants of wall stress) and myocardial strain are required for its calculation. Predicts all-cause mortality and major cardiovascular adverse events better than conventional markers of risk and is recommended for assessing patient prognosis
