- most common malignancy in white people, with incidence increasing worldwide by up to 10% a year. Risk factors include skin type 1, red or blonde hair, blue or green eyes, freckling in childhood, sunburn in childhood, family history of skin cancer, immunosuppressive treatment, and ingestion of arsenic. Development is likely to result from a complex interaction between genes and the environment, especially ultraviolet irradiation
