cross sectional moment of inertia(English)
- a biomechanical indicator of the structural distribution of bone mass from the neutral bending axis. During growth, bone can respond to increased mechanical loading by geometric adaptation. Increases in bone apposition at periosteal and endosteal surfaces result in considerable increases in CSMI, with bone accumulated further from the neutral axis conferring a greater contribution to bone bending strength
