MAOA

monoamine oxidase-A(English)

  • an advance in neurocriminology is the discovery of possible links between violent criminal behavior and genetics. Analysis of data from several studies indicates that the strongest link between genetic variation and aggression comes from a gene encoding an enzyme responsible for catabolizing amine neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin and noradrenaline. Thus, there is mounting evidence that biological, environmental, and social factors are involved in criminal behavior. Deficiencies in MAOA activity have been identified to correlate positively with aggressive behavior, but its influence may be moderated by environmental factors; aka MAO-A
