• examines the sequence information from individual cells with optimized NGS technologies, providing a higher resolution of cellular differences and a better understanding of the function of an individual cell in the context of its microenvironment. Data indicate that cellular transitions are often gradual over time and probably happen through transitional states as opposed to punctate events. This discovery emphasizes that the expression of a few proteins in the context of immuno-histochemistry is not sufficient to draw conclusions about cellular identity
