SCAD

There are multiple definitions:

  1. spontaneous coronary artery dissection(English)

  2. segmental colitis associated with diverticular disease(English)

  3. short-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase(English)

    • one of five ACAD enzymes involved in mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation. Like all fatty acid oxidation enzymes, it is a nuclear encoded protein that is imported into mitochondria. Following cleavage of the mitochondrial localization signal it folds, acquires FAD cofactors, and assembles into the active homotetrameric form. The optimal substrate for SCAD is butyryl-CoA, a four-carbon fatty acid. Human SCAD deficiency (SCADD) is a recessive disorder with an estimated frequency of at least 1:50,000 births
